So you have decided to take some vacation time and get away for some rest and relaxation. But all of your friends and family are busy and can't make the trip with you. Still you want to go. Or maybe you want to get
away from everyone and everything in your life and just be free for a while. Maybe you're planning on taking a singles cruise in the hopes of making new friends, maybe meeting that someone special, or just wanting to visit two or three places to take in the culture. Whatever the case is, you're preparing to travel to an unknown place by yourself, where no one knows your face. That can be a scary thought nowadays. Here are a few safety tips to help you feel more secure so that you can relax and enjoy yourself.

If you have a detailed plan for your trip, make sure you tell a family member or leave a copy of your schedule with them before you leave. Set up a certain time that you will be calling home. That way, if anything happens and you don't call them, they can contact the police where you are staying and ask them to check on you. If you are not sure where you will be or what time you will be calling home, make sure you tell them you will at least call every day.

If you are checking into a hotel that has a bellman, it might be a good idea to strike up a conversation and make a new friend. Bellmen take in the surroundings each and every day and can fill you in some things such as where the closest, safest and best places to eat or visit are and what kind of precautions the hotel you are staying at takes in order to keep their guests safe and secure during their visit. If he is reluctant to talk, you might slip him a five or ten dollar tip. Nothing loosens someone's tongue more than cash.

Make sure that the hotel you are staying at has either a room safe or a hotel safe. Keep any extra cash that you don't need for the day in it, along with any passports or documents you may need during your trip and any expensive jewelry you are not currently wearing. Cruise ships usually have a main safe as well.
