Riley’s Conference Center will host a Mother’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9. Fort Riley military personnel, Family members and civilian personnel who are graduates of local colleges or socad college programs are invited to participate in the postwide graduation ceremony at 1 p.m. May 14 at King Field House. The semi-annual combined college graduation ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. May 14 at King Field House. Counseling Services at all Education Services Learning Centers will be closed starting at 10:30 a.m. May 14 due to the ceremony.

Our Family for Families First, John G. Picerne’s private charitable foundation, was established to support the educational goals of children and spouses of active duty Soldiers. Educational grants in the amount of $5,000 are available for the spouses of active duty Soldiers stationed at Fort Riley. Grant applications for 2010 may be downloaded at www.ourfamilyfoundation.org. Please review the information located on the Web site for eligibility requirements. Applications for the grant must be postmarked by May 28.

Irwin Army Community Hospital offers beneficiary counseling assistance coordination to provide advice on health care options. A debt collection assistance officer also is available to help resolving health care billing and collection-related issues. The Family Life Ministries Center is open to help Soldiers and their Family members with depression, marital conflicts, anger, bitterness, grief and loneliness, communication skills, premarital counseling, divorce recovery, deployments and reunions, and much more. Soldiers, Family Members and Department of the Army civilians who work on Fort Riley are required to maintain a current post decal on their vehicles. Contractors wishing to gain access to Fort Riley must either obtain a temporary 30-day pass or apply for a Rapid Gate Pass. Visitors who wish to enter Fort Riley simply need a valid state issued driver's license, state issued identification card, passport with stamp or a Visa.
Fort Riley is not an open post. If individuals who work or reside on the installation choose not to obtain a decal, they may be denied entry if Force Protection Control Measures are increased.
Decals may be obtained from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Vehicle Registration, Building 885, adjacent to Henry Gate off of I-70. Visitors to the installation are not allowed between midnight and 5 a.m. unless accompanied by a military member or unless they have a valid 30-day visitor pass.
Main Post Chapel hosts a Bible study for adults on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a potluck from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The adults are working through “The Essential 100 Challenge,” which addresses 100 essential Old and New Testament scriptures.
A Bible study for girls ages 11 to 18 that focuses on developing godly character also is available.
The Fort Riley Thrift Shop is open Tuesday through Thursday and the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with consignments from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Dollar Bag Room will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thrift Shop continues to seek energetic volunteers. Child care reimbursement for volunteers is available. Please inquire at the shop.
Veterinary Service's new hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be closed for lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. The stray facility hours of operation are noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Veterinary Services is located in Building 226 Custer Ave. on Main Post. For more information, call 785-239-3886.
Grant Gate into Junction City will undergo construction through the end of March. The project may create delays for those entering the installation. Drivers are asked to be patient and obey all traffic control devices and flagmen.
The Relocation Readiness Program offers “Discover Riley's Treasures,” a newcomers’ orientation the fourth Thursday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Army Community Service, Building 7264 Normandy Drive on Custer Hill. Call 785-239-9435 for more information.

The YMCA in Junction City offers Operation Wheels, a service for active duty military and their dependents living in Junction City or Fort Riley. Rides are available for those who do not have access to a vehicle or who do not drive. The program will provide four round trips per month to the Commissary (if using WIC Vouchers), Army Community Service, Irwin Army Community Hospital, Chaplain Services, or doctor or dental appointments in Junction City.

Army Community Service hosts re-entry workshops the fourth Friday of each month from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Re-entry workshops are for those who have been stationed overseas for several years and need a little cultural integration back into the new and ever-changing world of iPods, and iPhones.

The Warrior Zone is open in Building 8067 on Custer Hill. Soldiers are invited to enjoy X-Box 360 and various Internet games. The Warrior Zone has free Wi-Fi, pool tables, card tables and a movie theater. The snack bar will feature Starbucks, pastries, sandwiches, salads and desserts. A bar will feature a variety of beer. Child, Youth and School Services, along with the New Parent Support Program, offers Play Pals Playgroup for children under 5 every Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at CYSS, Building 6620. Parents and children will participate in art, dramatic play, blocks, manipulatives, outdoor play and lots more. Parents must stay at the center with their children and participate in activities. This is not child care. Free on-site registration. Parents will provide their children meals or snacks as needed and diapers, wipes etc. A diaper changing area will be provided. The Employment Readiness Program is hosting a weekly job seekers workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Army Community Service, Building 7264 Normandy Dr. Tuesday workshops will focus on NAF applications, how to read vacancy announcements, application forms, and the step-by-step process for filling out applications. Thursday workshops will focus on the federal Resumix system, how to read federal announcements, assistance in researching positions for specific job qualifications and new spouse non-competitive status. The Fort Riley Suicide Prevention Program will conduct Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training classes monthly.

High school students are invited for Bible Lunch Tuesdays, aka B.L.T., every Tuesday during both lunch periods at Junction City High School. Students are picked up in the parking lot in front of the band room by various church vans and taken to the First Southern Baptist Church, 1220 West 8th St., for a free lunch and short devotional. If you have class on the southwest corner of JCHS or are in Deever it is a short walk. Several church youth groups, including Club Beyond, are involved in feeding more than 100 students each week. Come enjoy the free food (it beats the cafeteria), the fellowship (bring your friends and you won’t have to worry about who you are going to sit with) and the faith stretching devotional by one of the local area youth ministers.
Applications for the Fort Riley Thrift Shop’s Eyes for Education program may be picked up at all local schools, the Post Exchange Optical Shop, the Irwin Army Community Hospital Optometry Clinic and the thrift shop. Eyes for Education provides financial assistance toward eyeglasses for children. Several criteria must be met, but cases are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Web-Trac is available at www.rileymwr.com. Users can make payments for child care, SKIES programs and enroll and pay for youth sports programs.
